The Sunshine Coast Mass Transit Action Group Inc (MTAG) is an incorporated community organisation established in August 2020 to drive awareness of the Sunshine Coast Regional Council’s (SCRC) Mass Transit Project.

In 2020, we found out the SCRC had been working on a business case to put a fixed track, light rail with overhead wires (like the Gold Coast) for 13km along our Coastal Corridor from Maroochydore to Kawana.  Stage 2 was planned to extend to Caloundra.  We also found out SCRC planned to densify housing 400m on either side of the 13 km light rail route that would result in extensive high-rise development and threaten to make the Sunshine Coast another Gold Coast.  Despite the SCRC working on this plan since 2011, very few residents were aware it was happening.

Since then, we have worked with all sectors of the community to ensure the SCRC were made aware of the community's view on their light rail and high-rise plans.  Thankfully, light rail is no longer progressing, however, SCRC are still driving towards putting high-rise along the Coastal Corridor.  It is imperative we all speak up now to stop this from destroying the amenity we all enjoy.

We deal with all levels of government, and all political parties and will continue to advocate against this proposed new planning scheme.

Our executive membership represents a broad spectrum of ages, skills and political allegiances across the region.  Our Office Bearers are:

President:     Tracey Goodwin-McDonald

Secretary:     Gary Boyd

Treasurer:     Kate Harvey
